Ruhija Gorilla Lodge
$100-$200 per night

Overview
Ruhija Gorilla Lodge is a mid-range retreat in the heart of Bwindi's highest and least-visited gorilla trekking sector. Eight en-suite cottages sit at approximately 2,300 metres above sea level, surrounded by montane forest and offering views of the Virunga Mountain ranges and lush forest canopy — important bird habitat harbouring several Albertine Rift endemic species.
Accommodation spans Deluxe Rooms, Standard Cottages and Family Cottages, all with en-suite bathrooms featuring flush toilets, overhead showers with hot and cold water, comfortable bedding, extra blankets and hot water bottles for cold highland nights. Select rooms feature fireplaces. The main lodge houses a restaurant with scenic dining overlooking the forest, a well-stocked bar with premium wines and beverages, and a gift shop.
Ruhija is the sector of choice for serious birdwatchers and for travellers seeking solitude — gorilla trekking here involves higher-altitude forest walking and is generally quieter than the busier Buhoma or Rushaga sectors. Two habituated gorilla families are available for trekking, and the Mubwindi Swamp trail is a highlight for birders seeking the elusive Grauer's Rush Warbler.
